Bangladeshi inventor claims his generator can cut costs by up to 30%

He submitted the technology to BUET’s mechanical engineering department for testing on December 17 last year. After extensive tests, the department verified it.

A young man from Feni claims his fuel-saving generator can cut fuel costs by up to 30 percent. Abdul Hannan developed the generator after 16 years of research. BUET has tested and approved his method. The industry ministry has also recognised it. Though he has applied for a patent, a lack of fund, mechanical support, laboratory, technicians and environment is stopping further research.

Experts say widespread deployment could save billions of taka annually in fuel costs and ease pressure on the power sector, boosting the wider economy. Hannan said: “In Bangladesh, diesel, furnace oil and gas-based generators are used for power generation and in various mills and factories, large and small. If my technology were applied to them, it could save around BDT 250–300 billion per year.”

He submitted the technology to BUET’s mechanical engineering department for testing on December 17 last year. After extensive tests, the department verified it.

Professors Dr Md Ehsan and Dr Md Mamun from the mechanical engineering department released a six-page report on January 6 titled “Furnace Comparison Between Generator One and Generator Two”. Page five (032894) details Hannan’s fuel technology.

The report states that conventional systems consume 0.483 grams of fuel per unit of electricity. Hannan’s technology uses 0.357 grams per unit, yielding savings of roughly 26 percent per unit.

“No one advised or encouraged me in this work,” Hannan said. “I developed the method while servicing generators for my chicken farm and shop, searching for ways to save fuel. I studied electrical, electronic and electromagnetic topics online and brought the method to success. Confidence, relentless effort and persistence made me succeed.”

He now wants government or private support to research the project on a larger scale.

Monira Haque, Feni’s district commissioner, said: “I have heard about the young man’s fuel-saving generator. We want to patronise any innovative effort. We’ll look into it further, assess the invention’s viability and necessity, and see whether the state can deploy it.”
