The Bangladesh national cricket team has left for Sri Lanka to play a full series featuring two Tests, three One Day Internationals, and three T20 matches.
For this tour, Bangladesh will have different captains for each format. Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead in Tests, Mehidy Hasan Miraz in ODIs, and Litton Das in T20Is. Shanto has been named Test captain for one year, while Litton will lead the T20 side until the 2026 World Cup.
This Sri Lanka series marks the beginning of Bangladesh’s new approach with separate captains in all three formats. Shanto will lead the team in the two Tests, Miraz in the three ODIs, and Litton in the T20 series. The last time Bangladesh played under three different captains across formats was in 2022, with Mominul Haque (Tests), Tamim Iqbal (ODIs), and Mahmudullah (T20Is) at the helm.
The tour begins with the Test series, with the first match starting Tuesday (June 17) in Galle. Bangladesh’s Test captain Shanto said he wants the team to play competitive cricket and improve their position in the ICC World Test Championship.
“We want to win two or three more Tests than we did in the previous cycle of the World Test Championship (2025–27),” said Shanto.
