Despite a heavy defeat in the Mackay Test, Bangladesh made history by beating Australia in the Darwin Test. The memorable victory has lifted Bangladesh to sixth place in the ICC Test rankings, their highest-ever position. Twenty-six years after entering Test cricket, Bangladesh have reached sixth in the ICC rankings for the first time.

Bangladesh had risen to seventh in May after whitewashing Pakistan in a two-Test home series. Although they subsequently lost the one-off Test in Zimbabwe last month and dropped some rating points, Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side have now climbed to sixth. The Tigers began the series with 73 rating points and finished with 78, overtaking Pakistan (75) and Sri Lanka (76).

Australia also lost some rating points after their defeat in the Darwin Test but remain at the top. Their rating dropped from 131 to 126. South Africa are second with 119 points, followed by New Zealand with 106, India with 104 and England in fifth with 99.
