ICC promises to consider security issues, ultimatum report false: BCB

Dismissing media claims that ICC had warned Bangladesh of a points deduction for refusing to play in India, the board called them “utterly groundless and false”.

The International Cricket Council has responded positively to Bangladesh’s concerns over taking part in the 2026 T20I World Cup in India. The Bangladesh Cricket Board revealed in a statement today that the international body pledged close co-operation with BCB to secure the team’s “full and uninterrupted role”.

BCB maintains that ICC treated its concerns with gravity during a virtual meeting on Tuesday. The governing body promised to incorporate BCB’s suggestions and views into the event’s main security framework. Earlier, BCB had sent a letter proposing to skip matches on Indian ground amid security fears.

Dismissing media claims that ICC had warned Bangladesh of a points deduction for refusing to play in India, the board called them “utterly groundless and false”. BCB said talks are ongoing in a professional and collaborative spirit, with no threats on the table.

Tensions in diplomacy and cricket between India and Bangladesh arose after the Board of Control for Cricket in India told the Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to let go of Bangladeshi pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman. It offered no further explanation for the move that later stirred safety worries regarding Bangladesh players’ trip to India for the World Cup.

Placed in Group C, Bangladesh is scheduled to face its opening three games in Kolkata on February 7, 9 and 14, followed by a clash in Mumbai on February 17. The BCB vowed to press on with fruitful talks with the ICC while putting the team’s safety first.
