Bangladesh remains firm on not playing World Cup in India, says Asif Nazrul

The ICC informed Bangladesh yesterday that it must play in India to participate in the tournament.

Bangladesh has reaffirmed its refusal to send its national cricket team to India for the upcoming World Cup, citing unresolved security concerns. Asif Nazrul, the interim government’s sports adviser, said the position remains unchanged despite the International Cricket Council’s ruling.

Adviser Asif Nazrul told journalists today that the team will not play in India. “We didn’t get fair treatment from the ICC,” he said. He expressed hope the governing body would reconsider Bangladesh’s request to play its matches in Sri Lanka, taking security concerns into account.

The ICC informed Bangladesh yesterday that it must play in India to participate in the tournament. A board vote rejected Bangladesh’s alternative proposal. The ICC warned that failure to comply could lead to the team’s exclusion and replacement by another nation.

The sports adviser said the consequences of “bowing our heads” and exposing the public to security risks have to be taken seriously. Nazrul added he had spoken to the players personally.

Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam Bulbul echoed the stance, saying the team wants to play in Sri Lanka, not India. He added the BCB would continue discussions with the ICC.
