BCB forms 3-member commission for upcoming board election

BCB’s upcoming board election is scheduled for the first week of October.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday (September 6) formed a three-member election commission to oversee its upcoming board election, scheduled for the first week of October. The announcement came through a BCB press release.

Supreme Court Senior Advocate Mohammod Hossain has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner. The other members are Sibgat Ullah, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Additional Inspector General of Police, and the Executive Director (Joint Secretary) of the National Sports Council. The commission will soon announce the full election schedule.

The election comes after a leadership shake-up at the BCB following the fall of the Awami League government. Nazmul Hassan Papon’s long tenure as board president ended, succeeded briefly by former captain Faruque Ahmed, who also failed to retain the position. He was replaced by another ex-captain, Aminul Islam Bulbul, who was appointed as a nominated Director of the National Sports Council before becoming president.

Bulbul’s term is nearing its end, and he has already declared his candidacy for the upcoming election. Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal, who retired less than a year ago, has also entered the race for the presidency.

Under BCB rules, 25 directors are elected across three categories for a four-year term. These directors then vote to elect the board president.
