Mushfiqur Rahim etched his name in Bangladesh cricket history on Wednesday, November 19, by becoming the nation’s first player to appear in 100 Test matches. The milestone came during the second Test against Ireland, where he ended the first day unbeaten on 99 runs. Bangladesh closed the day at 292 for 4 in 90 overs, with Litton Das remaining 47 not out alongside him.
Mushfiqur, 38, is set to join an elite group of 11 cricketers worldwide who have scored a century in their 100th Test. His innings today included a 107-run stand with Mominul Haque, who scored 63 off 128 balls, and a 90-run partnership with Litton Das. Other contributions came from Shadman Islam (35) and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (34). All four of Bangladesh’s wickets fell to Irish spinner Andy McBrine.
Mushfiqur now holds the record for most Test appearances for Bangladesh. Mominul Haque follows with 75 Tests, while Taijul Islam has played 57, Mehidy Hasan Miraz 56, and Litton Das 52. Tomorrow, he will need just one more run to complete his century in his historic 100th Test.
