Tamim Iqbal elected new BCB president following board election

Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal was elected as a director with the highest tally of 73 votes and was later chosen as president.

After serving for two months as the head of the ad hoc committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Tamim Iqbal has been elected the board’s new president. Following Saturday’s board of directors election at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Tamim secured the highest number of votes to become a director, after which the directors elected him as president.

In the election, most directors representing divisional sports associations were elected unopposed. Voting was required only in the Khulna and Barisal divisions, as well as in the club category.

In Category-2, which comprises clubs, 76 councillors voted to elect 12 directors. A total of 16 candidates contested these positions. Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal was elected as a director with the highest tally of 73 votes and was later chosen as president. Major Imrose Ahmed, Faiyazur Rahman, Amzad Hussain, and Syed Borhanul Hossain were defeated in the club-category election. Among them, Amzad Hussain had previously served on the board under Aminul Islam Bulbul.

In Category-1, which includes district and divisional sports associations, seven of the ten directors were elected unopposed. Voting took place only in the Khulna and Barisal divisions. In Barishal, Mizanur Rahman, owner of Fortune Barisal, defeated Muntasir Alam to secure a director’s position. In Khulna, Shantanu Islam and Shafiqul Alam were elected as directors. Shantanu Islam is the brother of Anindya Islam.

In Category-3, which consists of universities and various organisations, Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir had already been elected unopposed.

The newly elected directors are: Said Bin Zaman, SM Abdullah Al Fuad, Minhajul Abedin, Moin Uddin Chowdhury, Shafiqul Alam, Shantanu Islam, Mir Shakhrul Alam, Mirza Faisal Amin, Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, Mizanur Rahman, Tamim Iqbal, Masduzzaman, Fahim Sinha, Asif Rabbani, Yasir Mohammad Faisal Ashik, Mirza Yasser Abbas, Israfil Khasru, Rafiqul Islam, Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim, Shanian Taneem, Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Sakif Ahmed, and Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir.
