SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship

Bangladesh reach final after thrashing Nepal

Earlier in the tournament, Bangladesh had routed Bhutan 12–0 in their opening match before defeating India 2–0 in the second.

Bangladesh booked a place in the final of the SAFF Under-19 Women’s Championship with a third consecutive win, defeating hosts Nepal 4–0 in the final round-robin match on Wednesday at the Rangasala Stadium in Pokhara.

In the day’s other match, India beat Bhutan by the same margin. Bangladesh and India will face off in the final on Saturday.

Bangladesh took the lead as early as the third minute through a goal by Protima. Alpi Akter then completed a hat-trick across the two halves, scoring her first in added time of the first half, followed by goals in the 67th and 82nd minutes.

Earlier in the tournament, Bangladesh had routed Bhutan 12–0 in their opening match before defeating India 2–0 in the second. Having already beaten India once, Peter Butler’s side will head into Saturday’s final with confidence and are expected to find the task relatively easier.

This is the seventh edition of the SAFF women’s youth championships across the U-18, U-19, and U-20 categories. Bangladesh is the most successful team, having won the title five times. India has lifted the trophy twice. Bangladesh and India were once declared joint champions.
