Nahid's mother speaks outside DB Office

Not only me but all mothers are worried today

Mumtaz Nahar, the mother of a key coordinator of the quota reform movement, Nahid Islam, expressed her anguish yesterday, stating, "They (DB) took my sick son from the hospital, along with two others. Is a child safer with the police than with their family? In this situation, not just me, but all mothers in the country are worried about their children. This is not right, this cannot continue."

She voiced her concerns to the journalists yesterday while standing beside the Detective Branch (DB) office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Minto Road.

Nahid and four other coordinators of the quota reform movement are currently in the custody of the DB. Yesterday, Mumtaz Nahar arrived at the DB office to see Nahid. She was accompanied by Nahid’s wife, and two aunts. Despite multiple requests to the police, they were denied entry.

Speaking to Bonik Barta, Mumtaz Nahar said, "A child belongs under the care of their family, not in the custody of them (DB). Why did they take him? They have previously tortured my son. He was later admitted to Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital." She continued, "If the DB police has something to discuss, it can be done in a safe place. Keeping him detained and questioning him in this manner is unacceptable."

Nahid’s mother feared, "I worry they might torture my son to death. I demand my son back in my custody."

Standing beside her was Sanjida Akter, wife of another coordinator, Akhtar Hossain, who is currently in prison. Sanjida Akter told Bonik Barta, "I am here with a demand. I want the release of all students arrested in the anti-discrimination movement, including Akhtar Hossain. All false charges and accusations against them must be withdrawn."
