The capital, Dhaka, is shrouded in a thick blanket of fog as winter tightens its grip across various regions in the country in the second week of Poush. The cold has intensified in Dhaka, with temperatures continuing to fall amid chilly winds blowing from the north and northwest. The minimum temperature in the capital dropped to 13 degrees Celsius at 6:00 a.m. on Friday.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Storm Warning Centre (SWC), the temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 14 degrees Celsius at 6:00 a.m., with the day’s minimum falling to 13.5 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels at the time stood at 95 percent.
The Meteorological Department further said the weather in Dhaka and the surrounding areas is likely to remain mainly dry today. The sky may stay partly cloudy, while winds are expected to blow from the north or northwest at speeds of 6 to 12 kilometres per hour. Daytime temperatures may rise slightly.
Meanwhile, in its nationwide forecast issued last night, the Meteorological Department warned that moderate to dense fog may form in different parts of the country until this morning and, in some areas, could persist until noon. Such conditions may disrupt both road transport and inland river navigation. The foggy weather is also expected to reduce visibility in many areas and intensify the feeling of cold.
