Some popular fish species, Rui, Katla, Mrigel, and Kalibaush, released sample eggs in the river Halda, the only natural fish breeding ground of the country.
Gravid fishes released fries on Thursday, which was the season’s first egg release of carp fishes, which usually happens during the March-June period of the monsoon.
After a prolonged wait, a sufficient number of sample eggs were released into the river. Fisheries experts and fry-collectors said the mother fish released an ample amount of eggs.
Fisherman Kamal Uddin Sowdagor, who collects fish eggs in the Halda River, told BSS that the mother fish have released sample eggs, and they are now waiting for the full release of eggs. He has already collected sample eggs.
On Thursday, the fry collectors gathered a satisfactory amount of sample eggs as the mother fish released a large quantity of eggs. Kamal Uddin mentioned that 400 fishermen with 100 boats collected the eggs on the first day of the season.
Manzoorul Kibria, a Halda researcher and teacher at Chattogram University's Zoology Department, said the river environment is now conducive for spawning. Mother fish have released eggs in various locations, and the turbidity of the river water currently ranges from 100 to 150. Once it reaches 600 to 700, the mother fish will release eggs in full swing.
