Flooding in Feni has worsened as water from the breached embankments of the Muhuri, Kahua, and Silonia rivers continues to overflow. By Wednesday night, floodwater began flowing over the Feni–Chhagalnaiya regional highway, particularly affecting low-lying areas in Chhagalnaiya’s Radhanagar Union, including Rejuniya, Kashimpur, and Nijpanua.
Locals say the surge from the breached embankments in Fulgazi and Parshuram is now pushing into Chhagalnaiya and parts of Feni Sadar. Since late Wednesday night, more areas have been flooded.
On Thursday morning (July 10), floodwater was seen flowing over a nearly two-kilometer stretch of the highway in Rejunia under Pathannagar Union. Water levels ranged from one to three feet deep in different parts of the road. Floodwaters have begun entering various areas of Pathannagar Union in Chhagalnaiya, and Motobi, Chonua, and Fazilpur Unions in Feni Sadar.
However, local sources say water pressure from the breached embankments in Fulgazi has begun to ease slightly.
Earlier this week, continuous heavy rainfall and runoff from the Indian hills caused 20 breaches in flood protection embankments across Fulgazi and Parshuram, sending water into residential areas. So far, nearly 50 villages have been inundated, leaving around 50,000 people stranded. In flood-hit zones, electricity has been cut to prevent accidents. Road communication between Feni and Phulgazi–Parshuram remains suspended.
Local authorities, political organizations, and volunteers are working together to carry out rescue and relief operations.
