Among the six films released this Eid, most are Dhaka-centric, with Taandob emerging as the clear frontrunner nationwide.

Starring Shakib Khan and directed by Raihan Rafi, Taandob hit a record-breaking 132 theaters across the country from Eid morning. Production house Alpha-i claims it is the biggest release in recent memory. Announcing the theater list on Facebook, the team wrote, “The largest release in recent time.”

As in several of his recent films, Shakib Khan takes on an anti-hero role in Taandob. In the story, a masked man leads a group into a television station and murders a powerful figure. He holds the building hostage, triggering intense confrontations inside and outside, including fierce clashes with law enforcement. Behind the action lies a complex conspiracy and personal vendetta. The film marks Shakib Khan and Jaya Ahsan’s return to the screen together after a decade—though not as a pair but as rivals, as hinted in the teaser. Sabila Nur plays the female lead.

In terms of screen count, Insaaf ranks second. The film, featuring Sariful Razz, Tasnia Farin, and Mosharraf Karim, is showing in 16 theaters. Directed by Sanjoy Somadder, the action film follows police officer Farin as she investigates a sudden spike in Dhaka’s crime rate, sparking rumors of the return of a notorious former don named Yusuf.

Tanim Noor’s Utshob, inspired by Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, is being screened at five Star Cineplex branches, Jamuna Blockbuster Cinemas, and Lion Cinema in Keraniganj. The story centers on a miserly old man visited by the spirits of his former business partners on a festival night. These supernatural encounters force him to confront his past, leading to a transformation into a kinder and more generous man. The film stars Zahid Hasan, Jaya Ahsan, Chanchal Chowdhury, Afsana Mimi, Aupee Karim, Soumya Jyoti, and Sadia Ayman.

Esha Murder: Karmaphal also released at Star Cineplex, Jamuna Blockbuster, and Lion Cinema. The film follows three rape-murders in the same district, all occurring after Valentine’s Day. Police officer Lina, played by Azmeri Haque Badhon, takes on the intense investigation to track down the brutal killer. Directed by Sunny Sanwar, the film also features Pooja Cruz, Misha Sawdagar, and Faruk Ahmed.

Despite strong promotional efforts, Tagar, directed by Alok Hasan, did not perform well in terms of theater count. The production team has not officially released a theater list yet, but the film is being shown at Star Cineplex, Jamuna Blockbuster, Lion Cinema, and Azad Cinema Hall in Dhaka. Set in a port area plagued by power struggles and black-market dealings, Tagar follows a rebellious young man who stands up against the local elites. As tensions rise, he becomes their target—but he is not one to back down. Ador Azad plays the titular role opposite Puja Cherry.

Meanwhile, Neel Chakra opened in Star Cineplex, Jamuna Blockbuster, and Lion Cinema as planned. The film explores the dark side of technology, where addiction to social media and online games opens the door for manipulation and exploitation. It is a story about how digital traps are being set and how easily the youth are falling into them. The cast includes Arifin Shuvoo, Mondera Chakroborty, and Fazlur Rahman Babu.
