This year’s Eid-ul-Azha was no exception, with a mix of genres that ranged from romantic and comedic to family-centric and thrillers—many of which made it to the trending list shortly after release.
Among the most talked-about productions was Ashiqui, a romantic drama that topped the trending charts. Starring Farhan Ahmed Jovan and Naznin Niha, the drama became a hot topic even before Eid, thanks to its teaser. Jovan faced some trolling online, but the drama went on to break viewership records, crossing 6 million views in a single day—an all-time high for a Bangla drama. Directed by Imrose Shawon, Ashiqui has now surpassed 16 million views and is at the top of the trending list at the time of filing this report. The story follows Ashiq, a simple boy who confesses his love to a wealthy girl named Jesia on campus. Humiliated by her rejection, Ashiq reinvents himself as a rockstar. Eventually, Jesia falls for him, but the story ends in tragedy.
Veteran director Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Raz returned with a family drama titled Khotipuron after receiving praise for a similar genre during Eid-ul-Fitr. This drama tells the story of Shirin, a new employee at a newspaper office, who falls for a young man named Tanvir. Obsessed with success and money, Tanvir becomes distant from his family and personal life. Yash Rohan and Malaika Chowdhury played the lead roles, supported by Nader Chowdhury, Monira Mithu, Rashed Mamun Apu, and Sushoma Sarkar.
Horbola, featuring Niloy Alamgir and Sumona Yesmin Crysiridia, also created buzz. Written by Abdullah Zahir Babu and directed by Zubair Ibne Bakar, the drama starts off with traditional Lathikhela (Stick-fighting) scenes but gradually turns into a thriller. Niloy, typically seen in comedic roles, surprised audiences with this shift. Horbola is currently at the third place in trending. The plot follows Riana, who arrives in a village with her father for rehabilitation therapy. She’s accompanied by a local youth, Akbar, who can mimic voices. Using Akbar’s skill, Riana tricks him into helping her steal money from her father, leading to an unexpected twist.
Ziaul Faruq Apurba, a beloved face in Bangla dramas, made a strong impression yet again with Ghran. Known for drawing attention with nearly every Eid release, Apurba played Akash in this family-centric drama. Written by Imdad Babu and directed by Masrikul Alam, the story revolves around Akash’s efforts to buy a saree for his mother. Confused in the store, he quietly follows a woman and eventually asks for her help in choosing the right one. The drama’s emotional narrative unfolds around this simple act.
Among the most popular on-screen pairings in Bangla telefilms is the Niloy-Himi duo. With over a hundred dramas under their belt, many of which have crossed millions of views, they returned in multiple Eid releases this year. Their drama Koti Takar Chairman, focused on election politics, has become a viewer favorite and is also trending in third place. The drama was directed by Meetul Khan.
Apurba also paired with actress Tasnia Farin in Priyo Projapoti, a romantic drama directed by Jakaria Showkhin. Although this duo hasn’t been seen together frequently, all of their past collaborations have been well-received. This latest drama has also drawn significant attention and currently ranks fifth in trending.
