Mass celebration on the streets

Amid the escalating situation stemming from the quota reform movement, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left the country. At 2:30 PM, Sheikh Hasina departed from Bangabhaban aboard a military helicopter, accompanied by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana. Later, on Monday (August 5), after 3 PM, demonstrators marched into Ganabhaban. During this time, there were reports of looting and vandalism inside by the protestors. Across various streets of Dhaka, the general public was seen celebrating.

Despite the curfew, the army allowed students and the public to pass.

Army Chief Waker-Uz-Zaman is scheduled to address the nation. Although this address was initially set for 2 PM, it has been postponed. General Waker-Uz-Zaman has convened a meeting at the Army Headquarters with the country's top political leaders to discuss the current situation.

It has been reported that senior co-chairman of the Jatiya Party, Anisul Islam Mahmud, the party’s Secretary General, Mujibul Haque Chunnu, and Dhaka University law professor Asif Nazrul, among others, attended the meeting.
