The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the Malaga Chamber of Commerce and Industry have agreed to work together on expanding bilateral trade and investment and on emerging and high-potential sectors, at a meeting in the southern Spanish port city on Friday.

The FBCCI delegation met the chamber to discuss widening commercial ties and strengthening bilateral cooperation, and the two sides agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding covering the exchange of technical support, agricultural development, investment promotion and closer cooperation through joint partnership.

Paloma Moreno Marin, vice president of the Malaga Chamber, led its delegation.

FBCCI Administrator Fazlul Hoque told the meeting that about 97 percent of goods imported into the Malaga region from Bangladesh are ready-made garments, and urged Malaga to reduce its reliance on a single product by also buying pharmaceuticals, ceramics, jute goods, leather goods and other high-quality Bangladeshi products.

He invited Malaga businesses and entrepreneurs to visit Bangladesh and assess investment opportunities in emerging sectors firsthand.

Marin cited Malaga’s advanced technological capacity and called on Bangladesh to import technology goods and services from the city, and for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest in the sector.

The FBCCI delegation expressed interest in drawing on the experience and facilities of Malaga’s internationally recognised technology park.
