PM seeks more Chevron investment in Bangladesh’s gas sector

A high-level Chevron delegation met the prime minister as Bangladesh seeks greater investment in gas exploration and existing fields.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday urged US energy giant Chevron to step up investment in exploring new gas fields and upgrading existing ones to bolster Bangladesh’s energy security and meet rising demand.

A high-level Chevron delegation, led by Javier La Rosa, president of Base Assets and Emerging Countries (BAEC), met the prime minister at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Shahadat Shadhin, the prime minister’s deputy press secretary, said the discussions focused on boosting investment in the country’s energy sector, with a particular focus on mature fields and the exploration of new reserves.

Also present at the meeting were Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, the prime minister’s adviser on finance and planning; Aninda Islam Amit, state minister for power and energy; and Shu Xiong, president and managing director of Chevron Bangladesh, alongside other senior officials.
