Following a series of consecutive upward adjustments, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has lowered the gold price in the domestic market over the weekend. The organisation reduced the price by BDT 2,158 per bhori, setting the price of 22-carat gold at BDT 234,621 per bhori including VAT.

BAJUS announced this information in a notification, stating that the new prices came into effect from 10 am today.

According to the notification, the price of pure gold (tezabi gold) has decreased in the local market. Considering the overall situation, the new gold price, including VAT, has been fixed.

Previously, BAJUS adjusted gold prices yesterday morning, raising 22-carat gold by BDT 1,133 per bhori to BDT 236,779 including VAT.

Under the new pricing, the per bhori rate (including VAT) for 22-carat gold in the domestic market is now BDT 234,621. The price has also been set at BDT 224,065 for 21-carat, BDT 192,398 for 18-carat and BDT 157,172 for traditional method gold per bhori.

BAJUS stated that these prices will remain effective across all jewellery establishments until further notice. But making charges will apply according to the jewellery design. Since VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver ornaments, no separate VAT can be collected from customers. BAJUS’s previous rules regarding ornament exchange and purchase — excluding specific VAT, making charges and stones — will remain unchanged.

With this adjustment, gold prices have been revised 103 times so far this year in the domestic market, comprising 51 hikes, 51 reductions and 1 VAT adjustment. In comparison, gold prices were adjusted a total of 93 times last year, with 64 increases and 29 reductions.

Meanwhile, while gold prices have been reduced, the silver price remains unchanged. The per bhori price of 22-carat silver, including VAT, stands at BDT 5,074. 21-carat silver is also priced at BDT 4,841, 18-carat at BDT 4,199 and traditional method silver at BDT 3,159 per bhori.
