Gold prices hit record high in Bangladesh amid market surge

22-carat gold reached BDT 181,550 per bhori (11.664 grams)

The association also noted that all sales prices must include a mandatory 5 percent government VAT and a minimum 6 percent making charge set by BAJUS.

Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) on Sunday (September 7) raised gold prices again, setting a new record as 22-carat gold reached BDT 181,550 per bhori (11.664 grams), the highest in the country’s history. The new rates will take effect on Monday.

In a statement, BAJUS said the hike was driven by rising prices of raw, or “pure,” gold in the local market. “Considering the overall situation, the new prices have been set accordingly,” the statement read.

Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold will sell for BDT 173,304 per bhori, 18-carat gold for BDT 148,541, and traditional gold for BDT 123,067.

The association also noted that all sales prices must include a mandatory 5 percent government VAT and a minimum 6 percent making charge set by BAJUS, with variations allowed depending on jewelry design and quality.

This is the second hike in less than a week. On September 3, BAJUS had raised 22-carat gold to BDT 178,832 per bhori, with corresponding increases for other categories.
