Bangladesh exported hatching eggs to Nigeria for the first time on Sunday, sending a consignment from the Cargo Village at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, the state minister for fisheries and livestock, inaugurated the shipment and said one of the government’s goals was to export livestock products after meeting domestic demand.
The state minister said the shipment marked a milestone toward international recognition for the country's livestock sector. “Once Bangladesh can meet its own demand and export abroad, it reflects national capability,” he said.
The prime minister has set a target of orienting every sector toward exports, Tuku added, describing the Nigeria shipment as a step toward that goal. He said he expected the scale of such exports to broaden, with the livestock sector playing a growing role in generating foreign exchange.
Shahzaman Khan, director general of the Department of Livestock Services, said the department was working continuously under the direction of the fisheries and livestock ministry to build an export-oriented livestock sector that meets international standards.
