Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association on Tuesday has raised official gold prices, citing increases in tejabi gold prices in local markets. A standard bhori (11.664 grams) of 22–carat gold will now cost BDT 244,128.
The new rates were set by the BAJUS standing committee on pricing and price monitoring at a meeting today. A notification signed by committee chairman Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shahin said the new prices take effect from Wednesday.
According to the official notice, 21–carat gold is now priced at BDT 232,988 per bhori, while 18–carat stands at BDT 199,746. Price for traditional method gold has been fixed at BDT 163,821 per bhori.
Silver prices have also been revised. A bhori of 22–carat silver is now priced at BDT 6,590, with 21–carat at BDT 6,299 and 18–carat at BDT 5,424. Traditional method silver will cost BDT 4,082 per bhori.
Final retail prices for jewellery will include an additional 5 percent VAT and a minimum 6 percent wage charge set by BAJUS. Labour costs may vary depending on design and craftsmanship.
