State Minister Shama Obaed Islam and Commonwealth Businesswomen’s Network chief Arif Zaman discuss investment strategies ahead of November’s CHOGM.

Bangladesh is preparing to pitch itself to foreign investors at November’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, with discussions focusing on policy continuity and its manufacturing ambitions.

Arif Zaman, executive director of the Commonwealth Businesswomen’s Network, met State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam in Dhaka on Monday and discussed strategies for drawing investors to Bangladesh during the summit in Antigua and Barbuda, according to a foreign ministry press release.

The release said discussions focused on pitching Bangladesh as an attractive investment destination, citing policy continuity and stability, its aspiration to become a manufacturing hub for the world, and opportunities in agriculture and rural business, the blue economy, renewable energy and the circular economy.

The two also discussed the scope of the Commonwealth Women’s Forum, which will take place alongside the CHOGM, to help women entrepreneurs realise their full potential.
