BAJUS lifts gold prices as domestic pure gold costs climb

The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association raised the retail price of gold on Thursday citing local pure gold costs, with the best-quality 22-carat gold now priced at BDT 238,121 per bhori (11.664 grams).

The body priced 21-carat gold at BDT 227,331 per bhori and 18-carat at BDT 194,847 per bhori. Traditional-method gold was set at BDT 158,689 per bhori.

Silver prices remained stable. A bhori of 22-carat silver held at BDT 5,657, while 21-carat stood at BDT 5,365, 18-carat at BDT 4,607, and traditional-method silver at BDT 3,441.

A notice signed by BAJUS committee chairman Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen said a 5 percent government value-added tax and a 6 percent minimum making charge fixed by the association must be added to the sale price. Making charges may vary depending on design and quality, the notice added.
