Gold and silver prices in Bangladesh have been raised to record levels, with the Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association setting the per bhori price of 22-carat gold at BDT 252,467. The new rates will take effect on Thursday.
The revised prices were set at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Wednesday, according to a signed notification issued by the association’s chairman, Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shahin.
Rates were also fixed for other grades. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at BDT 240,978 per bhori, 18-carat gold at BDT 206,569, and traditional method gold at BDT 169,653.
Silver prices have been raised in parallel. The price of 22-carat silver is now BDT 6,882 per bhori, while 21-carat silver stands at BDT 6,532, 18-carat at BDT 5,599, and traditional silver at BDT 4,199.
The notification said a 5 percent value-added tax and a 6 percent minimum wage charge set by BAJUS must be added to the base gold price. It added that the wage charge may vary depending on a piece’s design and craftsmanship.
