NBR halts yarn import from India via land ports

Under the revised rules, all products except yarn and potatoes from Nepal and Bhutan can still be imported. However, the restrictions on Indian goods are broader.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued a halt on importing yarn from India through land ports.

In a notification issued on Sunday (April 13), the NBR canceled the facility to import yarn via Benapole, Bhomra, Sonamasjid, Banglabandha, and Burimari land ports—routes commonly used for yarn imports from India.

This new order, which takes immediate effect, amends a previous notification issued on August 27 last year.

Under the revised rules, all products except yarn and potatoes from Nepal and Bhutan can still be imported. However, the restrictions on Indian goods are broader. A wide range of products—including duplex board, newsprint, craft paper, cigarette paper, fish, yarn, potatoes, powder milk, tobacco, radio and TV parts, bicycle and motor parts, formica sheets, ceramic ware, sanitary ware, stainless steel ware, marble slabs and tiles, and mixed fabrics—are now restricted to be imported from India.

An exception has been made for VAT-registered Biri manufacturers, who are still allowed to import tobacco stems as raw material.

The NBR has also updated several serial numbers in the previously issued SRO No. 297-Law/2024/89/Customs, refreshing the product list while maintaining existing permissions for all exportable goods.
