Gold prices raised for second time in three days

BAJUS said labour charges would continue to vary, while VAT remains included in listed prices

Under the revised schedule, 22-carat gold will sell for BDT 232,930 per bhori including VAT.

The Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) raised the price of 22-carat gold by BDT 2,508 per bhori (11.664 grammes) to BDT 232,930 on Thursday, the second upward adjustment in three days, citing the overall market situation.

The new rates took effect at 10 am, BAJUS said in a notice issued this morning. The decision was taken unanimously by the association’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring.

Under the revised schedule, 21-carat gold is priced at BDT 222,491 per bhori, 18-carat at BDT 191,056 and traditional gold at BDT 156,064. All prices include VAT.

BAJUS had last adjusted gold prices on June 15, raising 22-carat by BDT 5,482 to BDT 230,422.

The association said labour charges would apply according to jewellery design. It instructed that no separate VAT be collected from customers, as the tax is already built into the listed selling price. A decision on VAT for silver jewellery would be announced shortly, it added.
