Credit Rating Agency of Bangladesh Limited (CRAB) has appointed Noor A Alam Chowdhury as the new Chairman of its Board of Directors. The appointment would be effective from April 22 of 2025. The decision was unanimously approved through an election during the company’s 103rd board meeting. Mr. Chowdhury has been serving as a board member since 2016. He succeeds the late Mr. Syed Manzur Elahi, a founding director of CRAB and former Chairman of Mutual Trust Bank PLC and Apex Footwear Ltd.
Noor A Alam Chowdhury has extensive experience from the ICT sector. He held senior technology and business roles within the insurance, chemical, and banking industries across Bangladesh, Middle East and South Asia. After a successful multinational career, he co-founded Data Edge Ltd. He also currently serves as Chairman at the company.
Over the years, Mr. Chowdhury has expanded his business involvement in the financial and the FMCG sectors, taking on the role of Chairman at BD Venture Limited. He is also the Managing Director of food edge limited, which has developed successful retail brands such as ‘Bread & Beyond.’
In a statement following his appointment, Noor A Alam Chowdhury expressed his commitment to strengthening CRAB’s standards of corporate governance and guiding the agency through the evolving landscape of the credit rating industry. CRAB stated that under his leadership, the agency expects to enhance its focus on digital innovation and collaborate more closely with financial market stakeholders to advance the credit rating ecosystem in Bangladesh.
