Police training on capacity building for election duties officially launched

Under the program, more than 150,000 police officers will receive training to perform election duties professionally and ensure security during the polls.

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury formally launched on Sunday (September 7) a nationwide training program to prepare police personnel for the upcoming national elections in February 2026.

The program was inaugurated at Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in Dhaka, with Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Md Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, Senior Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam in attendance.

Under the program, more than 150,000 police officers will receive training to perform election duties professionally and ensure security during the polls. The Human Resources department at Police Headquarters has developed nine training modules over the past three months, incorporating input from election experts and legal advisors under the guidance of the IGP and Additional IGP for HR.

Bangladesh Police operates 130 smaller and four larger training centers across the country, where personnel will follow the course designed specifically for election duties. The program also includes two documentaries—a 15-minute audiovisual and a nine-minute film—alongside a booklet.

Earlier, from August 31 to September 2, a total of 150 master trainers were trained at Police Headquarters in Dhaka. Plans are underway to train 1,292 trainers of trainers (ToT) at 19 police training centers across the country. These trainers will subsequently prepare over 150,000 police personnel for election duties.
