BNP sweeps three Munshiganj seats with commanding margins

The returning officer declared Munshiganj-3 on the basis of returns from 169 polling centres and one postal ballot centre.

Candidates from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party won all three parliamentary constituencies in Munshiganj district by wide margins, according to unofficial results announced early Friday by returning officer Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi.

In Munshiganj-1, BNP’s Sheikh Md Abdullah took 167,572 votes, defeating nearest rival AKM Fakhruddin Razi, running on the scale symbol, who secured 101,568.

BNP’s Abdus Salam Azad more than doubled the vote of his closest challenger in Munshiganj-2, polling 121,154 against 58,573 for Majedul Islam, the National Citizen Party nominee.

Md Quamruzzaman Ratan of the BNP won Munshiganj-3 with 124,691 votes. Independent candidate Md Mohiuddin, running with a football symbol, followed with 88,936.

The returning officer declared Munshiganj-3 on the basis of returns from 169 polling centres and one postal ballot centre.

Ashrafi, district returning officer, announced the outcomes from her office around 1:30 am.
