Three people, including Kurigram-2 Member of Parliament Atiq Mujahid, were injured after a microbus plunged into a roadside ditch following a collision with a truck.

The accident occurred on Tuesday morning near the Kaunia Bailey Bridge area on the Rangpur–Kurigram road.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the microbus was approaching the Bailey Bridge area in Kaunia upazila when a truck coming from the opposite direction hit it. The impact caused the vehicle to lose control and veer off the road into a ditch.

Atiq Mujahid sustained minor injuries, while the driver and another passenger were seriously injured. They were rescued and admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Rasheduzzaman Tawhid, joint convener and head of the media cell of the district NCP, said the incident was a road accident and warned against spreading rumours. “Such accidents occur frequently due to unsafe roads. Please don’t spread misinformation. With your prayers, the MP is now stable. He has sought prayers from everyone,” he said.
