Bangladesh attended the 36th Extraordinary Session of the IMO Council, raising concerns over maritime safety amid the Middle East crisis and calling for diplomatic action to safeguard uninterrupted global shipping.
The International Maritime Organization convened the session to examine developments in the Middle East and their implications for international maritime security.
The Bangladesh delegation was led by Deputy High Commissioner Dr Nazrul Islam, the Bangladesh High Commission in London said in a statement.
In his address, Dr Islam highlighted Bangladesh’s concern for the safety, security, and welfare of all seafarers, including nationals serving on vessels in the affected regions.
Bangladesh reaffirmed its support for the lawful and uninterrupted navigation of ships under international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The delegation also called on all parties to pursue constructive dialogue and diplomatic measures to resolve the crisis.
