Funeral prayers and burials for the 14 people killed in a road accident in Rampal Upazila of Bagerhat District were completed on Friday.
After Jumu’ah prayers, the funeral prayers of nine members of the family of Abdur Razzaq were held at the Mongla Upazila Parishad Ground. They were later laid to rest at the Mongla Cemetery.
Among those attending the janaza (funeral prayers) were State Minister for Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shaikh Faridul Islam, Member of Parliament for Bagerhat-2 Sheikh Monjurul Haque Rahad, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Golam Md Baten, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, relatives of the deceased, and thousands of mourners.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayers for four members of the bride’s family were held in Koyra Upazila’s Noksha village, while the janaza of the microbus driver was held in Rampal Upazila.
Speaking before the funeral prayers, State Minister Shaikh Faridul Islam described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy. He said the prime minister had inquired about the bereaved families and expressed condolences. He also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls, saying Abdur Razzaq was a noble person.
MP Sheikh Monjurul Haque Rahad said that a house which was meant to be filled with joy today had instead been overshadowed by grief. He expressed sympathy for the bereaved families.
