Shipping Adviser Big Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain on Saturday inaugurated the Lakshmipur Launch Terminal under Muladi upazila in the district, according to an official handout.

The terminal will bring an end to the long-standing sufferings of the commuters from Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, and Dhaka, making travel easier, safer, and cost-effective, the adviser said during the inauguration programme.

The terminal will also play an important role in expanding trade and commerce in agriculture, fisheries, and livestock sectors, he said.

The shipping adviser added that the government aims to ensure balanced development across the country by harnessing Bangladesh’s immense potential as a riverine nation.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mustafa and officials of the Ministry of Shipping and BIWTA were present during the event.
