RMCH reports another death with ‘measles-like symptoms’

The hospital currently has 153 patients under observation with suspected measles.

A child exhibiting measles symptoms died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Monday morning, health officials said, ending a brief hiatus in fatalities at the facility.

Dr Shankar K Biswas, spokesperson and in charge of the hospital’s emergency department, confirmed the death occurred around 9:30 am. The child had been brought for treatment within the preceding 24 hours. No measles-related deaths had been recorded at the hospital during the previous two days.

A further nine children with measles-like symptoms were admitted over the same 24-hour period, while 11 were discharged. The hospital currently has 153 patients under observation with suspected measles.

Since the start of the current season, the hospital’s isolation ward has treated 559 children. The seasonal death toll at the Rajshahi facility now stands at 49.
