A major political shift has emerged in Rangpur in the 13th national parliamentary election, with the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance winning all six parliamentary constituencies in the district.

Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan formally announced the unofficial results early Friday (February 13) at the district administration office.

According to the results, Jamaat-e-Islami secured five seats, while one seat went to its alliance partner, the National Citizen Party (NCP).

In Rangpur-1, Jamaat candidate Md Raihan Siraji was elected with 147,245 votes. His nearest rival, BNP’s Mokarram Hossain Sujan, received 69,131 votes. Voter turnout in the constituency stood at 60.89 percent.

In Rangpur-2, Jamaat’s ATM Azharul Islam won with 135,556 votes, defeating BNP candidate Mohammad Ali Sarkar, who secured 80,538 votes.

In Rangpur-3, Jamaat’s Mahbubur Rahman Belal was elected with 178,064 votes. BNP’s Shamsuzzaman Samu finished second with 85,498 votes, while Jatiyo Party Chairman GM Quader came third with 43,790 votes.

In Rangpur-4, alliance-backed NCP candidate Akhtar Hossain won with 149,966 votes, defeating BNP candidate Emdadul Haque Bhorsa by a margin of 9,402 votes.

In Rangpur-5, Jamaat candidate Professor Golam Rabbani secured 176,411 votes. His nearest rival, BNP candidate Professor Md Golam Rabbani, received 115,116 votes.

In Rangpur-6, Jamaat’s Md Nurul Amin won with 120,128 votes, narrowly defeating BNP candidate Saiful Islam, who secured 117,703 votes.

The returning officer said there were around 2.59 million (2,599,202) registered voters across the six constituencies in Rangpur, with a total of 44 candidates contesting the election.

Meanwhile, Jatiyo Party Chairman GM Quader was not seen in public throughout election day. Central leaders of his party were also absent from the field. Despite repeated attempts, no statement could be obtained from them. Quader remained at his residence in Senpara, Rangpur, and did not appear before journalists who visited the location several times.
