Bangladesh’s 13th parliament opened its third session on Thursday, with a number of bills expected to be passed and MPs set to debate the country’s power and energy crisis, the Adani power agreement, rising commodity prices, law and order, the formation of parliamentary committees and constitutional reform.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, presided over the session, which began at 3 pm. He congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the country’s 23rd president on August 20 and then moved a condolence motion.

The previous session ended on July 15. Under a constitutional requirement that parliament convene within 60 days, the president summoned the new session.
