Three more children have died with measles-like symptoms at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours. During the same period, the facility has newly admitted 23 more children.
Dr Shankar K Biswas, RMCH’s spokesperson and emergency department in-charge, confirmed the information this afternoon through the hospital’s media cell.
He added that 10 patients with similar symptoms were discharged in the past 24 hours.
“133 patients with measles-like symptoms are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital,” he added. “So far, a total of 452 patients have been admitted.”
In total, 46 patients have died with measles-like symptoms so far, Dr Biswas noted.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi Civil Surgeon Dr SIM Raziul Islam confirmed that there are no deaths reported at upazila community clinics or hospitals in the district in similar cases.
Rajshahi City Corporation’s health department collects data on measles cases, hospitalisations, and deaths within the city. Md Dulal Hossain, health and education officer of the corporation, said so far no deaths have been reported in the corporation area. “However, five private hospitals in Rajshahi city have received 47 children with similar symptoms in the same period,” he added, citing confirmation from the respective medical authorities.
