India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has detained two Bangladeshi youths on allegations of illegal entry through the Uttar Jhaukuti border in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram. The incident took place on Sunday night (April 12).
Confirming the matter, Kurigram-22 BGB Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mahbub-ul-Haq said, “Communication has been established with BSF to secure their return through a flag meeting.”
The two individuals are Solaiman Hossain from Bagmara village in Ashtamir Char area of Narayanpur union under Nageshwari upazila, and Sohag Mia, son of late Anwar Hossain from South Baldia Kumartari village in Bhurungamari upazila.
They reportedly crossed into Takimari area of Dhubri district in India’s Assam state through the 1037 international border pillar along the Uttar Jhaukuti frontier, according to BGB and local sources. With assistance from local residents, BSF personnel later detained them, the sources also informed.
Narayanpur Union Chairman Mostafizur Rahman also confirmed the two Bangladeshis’ detention.
