Vessel with 26,000 tonnes of octane from Malaysia docks at Chittagong port

To maintain supply stability, the government is continuing fuel imports despite the volatile global market and risks to supply chains, officials said.

The Vessel MT Central Star, carrying 26,000 tonnes of refined octane from Malaysia, anchored at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port early Thursday.

MT Eastern Queens, another tanker, is expected to arrive later this week with around 25,000 tonnes of furnace oil, according to Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation sources.

Four more vessels carrying nearly 43,000 tonnes of fuel oil are waiting at the outer anchorage at present for unloading.

Syed Refayet Hamim, secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), told Bonik Barta, “At least five tankers carrying octane, diesel, and LPG from Malaysia, India, and China have already arrived at the port. BPC will unload fuel from these tankers according to schedule. There’s a possibility of several more tankers arriving in the next few days.”

Another vessel with 34,000 tonnes of diesel from Malaysia arrived at the port on Wednesday, according to BPC. Roughly 7,500 tonnes of LPG have also reached the port on three separate vessels from India, China, and Malaysia.

To maintain supply stability, the government is continuing fuel imports despite the volatile global market and risks to supply chains, officials said.
