Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu remarked that the Teesta Master Plan is closely intertwined with the good fortune and prosperity of the northern region. He stated that once this master plan is implemented, disasters like floods and droughts will be eliminated, turning the northern territory into a prosperous region. “That’s why the government is committed to implementing this project,” he added.

The minister made these remarks on Tuesday morning as the chief guest at a progress-sharing workshop on the improvement of local-level flood early warning and dissemination systems, implemented by the Department of Disaster Management under the “Enhancing Resilience of Vulnerable Communities through Infrastructure Capacity Development and Information (PROBHATI),” held at the BIAM Auditorium in the capital.

The minister said that in Bangladesh, a land of six seasons, disasters are inherently intertwined with people’s lives. Every year, people suffer losses due to various types of disasters. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief is working alongside people who have lost everything in disasters.

This project is being implemented in 19 flood-prone upazilas across the northwestern districts of Gaibandha, Kurigram and Jamalpur, helping local communities cope with flood risks by improving seasonal flood early warning systems and disseminating the warnings at the local level.
