Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Sunday (September 7) directed the Public Service Commission (PSC) to hold Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations on a fixed calendar every year, emphasizing transparency and the need for timely recruitment in public administration.
“Examinations and recruitment must be completed at the same time every year in line with the calendar,” the Chief Adviser told PSC officials during a meeting at the state guesthouse Jamuna. “The BCS exam is the entry point. Those who pass will run the government. If there is irregularity at the entry point, it will affect the entire system.”
He urged PSC to address existing problems, carry out necessary reforms, and ensure a transparent process so future civil servants enter the system on merit alone.
PSC Chairman Professor Dr. Mobasser Monem said during the meeting that the commission has already introduced a five-year roadmap to hold exams and recruitment between November and the following October each year.
Commission members said political interference over the past 15 years had led to irregularities, favoritism, and question leaks in BCS exams. Reforms have since been introduced to prevent such practices and raise the quality of question papers so candidates can compete globally.
The meeting was attended by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Dr. Md Mokhlesur Rahman, Chief Adviser’s Principal Secretary Sirajuddin Miah, PSC members, and senior officials of the PSC Secretariat.
