Air travel disruptions in the Middle East, triggered by the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel with Iran, have yet to ease. With Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah airfields operating on a limited basis and Doha airfield completely closed, four more international flights from Shah Amanat International Airport were cancelled on Sunday.
This brings the total number of cancelled international flights to 120 since February 28.
Airport sources said the flights cancelled on Sunday included two operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines — one arriving from Sharjah and another departing for Abu Dhabi. In addition, two flights operated by US-Bangla Airlines — one arriving from Dubai and another departing for the same destination — were also cancelled.
Meanwhile, several other international flights operated normally on the same day. Flights on the Sharjah and Dubai routes operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, SalamAir, Air Arabia, and US-Bangla Airlines are gradually returning to normal operations.
Public Relations Officer of Shah Amanat International Airport, engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, told Bonik Barta that flight operations have remained unstable for the past 16 days due to the war situation in the Middle East. “From February 28 until today, a total of 120 international flights have been cancelled. Flight operations will return to normal once the situation stabilises. As some Middle Eastern airfields are gradually resuming normal operations, air traffic is also increasing,” he said.
