Gas supply to industrial establishments has increased during the same period this year compared to the first four months of last year. Bangladesh Oil, Gas, and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) released this information on Monday (May 26) in a press statement.
The statement comes in response to comments made by representatives of industry-related organizations in various newspapers. Petrobangla clarified the actual situation regarding gas supply to industries.
Petrobangla reported that the average daily gas supply to industries from January to April 2024 was 823 million cubic feet. In the same period this year (January-April 2025), 997 million cubic feet of gas was supplied. This means a 21 percent increase compared to last year.
The statement also noted that to increase gas supply to industries, six additional LNG cargo shipments were imported compared to last year. The import cost is about BDT 65 per cubic meter. The industrial sector is charged BDT 30 per cubic meter for gas, while the cost of self-generated electricity in industries is BDT 31.50 per unit. Thus, the government subsidizes BDT 35 per cubic meter for the extra gas supplied. Starting May 28, an additional 150 million cubic feet of gas will be supplied daily.
The statement said the government has taken prompt and effective measures regarding gas supply to industries and expects these actions will end all confusion on the matter.
