A case has been filed against Hanif Paribahan and a truck driver after four members of the same family were killed in a road accident in Cumilla, according to police.

The crash occurred Friday afternoon (August 22) at the Paduar Bazar U-turn when a speeding truck lost control and ran over a private car, killing all four family members inside. Police said the truck swerved while trying to avoid a Hanif Paribahan bus that was coming from the wrong direction.

Following the accident, authorities decided to close the U-turn in front of the Palli Bidyut office at Paduar Bazar. Vehicles will now be required to use the Dayapur U-turn in Sadar South Upazila until further notice.

“The area was inspected by senior army officials, highway police, and Roads and Highways Department engineers, who recommended closing the U-turn,” said the Executive Engineer of Cumilla Roads Division.

A coordination meeting on road safety is scheduled for Sunday at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where a final decision on the matter will be made.

Abul Kalam, the brother of the victim Omar Ali, filed the case with Sadar South Police Station against the truck driver and the Hanif Paribahan bus involved in the incident.

Mohammad Selim, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar South Model Police Station, confirmed the case and said the victims’ family members brought charges following the fatal accident.
