LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan directed the relevant authorities to take swift and effective measures to address Dhaka’s traffic congestion, dengue outbreak and waterlogging.

He gave the directive at a meeting to review progress on Dhaka reconstruction activities in the meeting room of the Local Government Division at the Secretariat on Wednesday. State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam was also present.

The minister said ensuring people’s smooth movement in major cities is extremely important. If people’s valuable time is wasted on the roads, it has a significant impact on the economy. So effective measures must therefore be taken to ease traffic congestion and ensure smooth mobility for city residents.

Urging all concerned to work in a coordinated manner to prevent dengue, Moyeen Khan said the prime minister had inaugurated the Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign 2026. The nationwide cleanliness and awareness campaign will continue until December 12. Alongside strengthening ongoing dengue prevention efforts, regular cleaning and sanitation activities must also be carried out.

He asked the relevant authorities to review progress on the prime minister’s dengue prevention initiatives and take the necessary measures.

The state minister said the ongoing activities of the city corporations must be further strengthened to make Dhaka a clean, safe and liveable city. He stressed the need for regular cleanliness drives to prevent dengue and campaigns to destroy breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes.

Earlier, the administrators of Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation presented an overview of their ongoing activities.

The minister and the state minister expressed satisfaction after reviewing the progress of various initiatives undertaken by the city corporations to maintain cleanliness in Dhaka, prevent dengue, ease traffic congestion, excavate canals, eliminate waterlogging and build a safe and sustainable Dhaka.
