Police have detained two people in Mithamoin, Kishoreganj, over allegations that subsidised urea fertiliser allocated by the government for farmers was being transported elsewhere in violation of regulations. A total of 111 sacks of urea were seized from two trolleys during the operation, and the two trolleys were also seized. Mithamoin Police Station duty officer ASI Abdullah Al-Mamun confirmed the matter on Tuesday afternoon.

He said a case had been filed with the police station against the two detained individuals, the authorised fertiliser dealer and another person. The two detainees were shown arrested in the case and sent to court.

Police and agriculture department sources said an operation was conducted in Katkhal Union of the upazila around 11 am on Monday based on information that subsidised urea fertiliser allocated for farmers was being transported elsewhere in violation of regulations. A police team led by Md Gaffar, in-charge of the Katkhal Police Outpost, carried out the operation.

During the operation, Shahin Mia and Zahir Mia were detained while transporting fertiliser in two trolleys. Police later searched the two trolleys and seized 111 sacks of urea fertiliser. The two trolleys used to transport the fertiliser were also seized. In connection with the incident, authorised fertiliser dealer Mustafizul Islam Ratan and another person named Liton were also made accused.

Mithamoin Upazila Agriculture Officer Obaidul Islam Khan Apu said fertiliser was being transported from one union to another without informing or obtaining permission from the agriculture department. Local residents stopped the vehicle carrying the fertiliser and informed the agriculture department and police. Police later went to the scene and detained the two drivers.
