Bangladesh’s parliament convened on Sunday for its first budget session, with Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury scheduled to table the administration’s inaugural fiscal plan for 2026–27 on June 11.
The session opened at 3 pm with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, in the chair. At the outset, the Speaker nominated a five-member presiding panel to conduct proceedings in his and the deputy speaker’s absence.
The panel comprises Selima Rahman, Osman Faruk, Zainul Abedin, Mohammad Shahjahan and Shahjahan Chowdhury, with the most senior member present taking the chair when required.
The house then adopted a condolence motion on the recent deaths of former policymakers and public representatives, in keeping with parliamentary convention.
