In total, 19,641 firearms licenses were issued in Bangladesh between 2010 and 2024, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed informed the National Parliament.

He provided the information on Thursday in response to a written question from Shah Md Wares Ali Mamun, a ruling party member of parliament from the Jamalpur-5 constituency.

He asked how many people had been issued firearms licenses between 2010 and 2024 and requested a year-wise breakdown.

In response, the home minister said that a total of 19,641 firearms licenses were issued during the period. These included 7,308 shotgun licenses, 5,347 pistol licenses, 594 revolver licenses, 948 rifle licenses and 5,444 licenses for other types of firearms.

The home ministry said the year-wise data on firearms licenses issued between 2010 and 2024 would have to be collected and submitted by the district magistrate offices of all 64 districts. As this process requires additional time, only a partial answer to the question has been provided for now.
