The High Court has dismissed today a petition seeking to restore the candidacy of Manjurul Ahsan Munshi, a Bangladesh Nationalist Party nominee, effectively barring him from the Cumilla–4 constituency for the upcoming national election.
A bench of justices Rajik Al Jalil and Md Anwarul Islam rejected the writ petition. The legal challenge had sought to overturn an Election Commission decision against Munshi, the BNP’s nominee for Cumilla–4.
Lawyers said the ruling means Munshi cannot contest the upcoming general election from the constituency. The court had scheduled the hearing for today after accepting the petition a day earlier.
